August 7, 2007

The lodge in 2007.

May 19, 2008

It's a tough picture to put up, but I think it needs to be shown- 100 years of history lost with one lightning strike. You just never know.

Late May, 2008

Old Town Canoes. They take a lickin' and keep on tickin'.

Mid-September, 2008

A good gravel base for the new building will negate the need for jacking it up every few years. Love a good bulldozer, too.

September 20, 2008

The floor sits on concrete footings that run the length of the building.

September 21, 2008

We have a completed floor frame!

September 23, 2008

I owe this woman a lobster dinner! She's done so much to help out with the rebuild- we can't thank her enough.

September 25, 2008

I'm no expert, but this may be the most beautiful sub-floor I've ever seen.

October 8, 2008

After much ado, the first course of logs is laid on the sub-floor. So far, so good!

October 13, 2008

The walls start going up a little higher, bit by bit.

October 13, 2008

Next summer, we'll be able to stand on the dock in front of a brand new lodge; for now, you'll just have to use your imagination.

October 13, 2008

Very nice joinery! I'm looking forward to many cozy days and nights in the new place.

October 19, 2008

It's definitely a slow process, but it's getting there!

October 22, 2008

I love snow as much as the next person (and probably more...) but not when we still have half a lodge to build.

It is pretty, though, isn't it?

October 28, 2008

It's been alternating between rain, snow, and sun. Work has been slow but pretty steady.

October 31, 2008

Happy Halloween! The snow's disappearing trick sure was a treat.

November 4, 2008

We've had a few good days recently- one was obviously perfect for flying.

November 13, 2008

Only one more course to go! After this, we can frame the gables and install the roof trusses.

Spring 2009

May 18, 2009

The roof is going on! (And the birches are the only things that have leafed out yet...)

May 19, 2009

It's going to be one pretty building when it's completed.

May 20, 2009

The dining room roof is mostly framed out at this point.

May 22, 2009

All three roof sections have framing now, and I'm getting more excited by the day to get the roof finished.

May 27, 2009

The kitchen end section is tied in to the dining room roof, and we have some sheathing.

The dining room looks pretty neat with the gable framed out and the collar ties installed.

May 28, 2009

Midway through Thursday, May 28. The sky was just too nice a shade of blue not to put this picture up, and a lot more trees have leaves now! What a difference 10 days makes.

The kitchen and dining room roofs are sheathed!

June 1, 2009
Fun series for you today. We have windows!

June 2, 2009

More windows cut today. The new lodge is going to be a lot lighter on the inside than the old one was. (Of course, that also means more windows to wash...)

The windows on the two end sections are roughed-in. There'll be two picture windows and a set of french doors in the dining room, as well.

June 3, 2009

The holes for the windows in the back room are complete.

June 4, 2009

We have roofing on the northwest quadrant of the building and a door in the back room

June 5, 2009

We have dining room windows! Also, about half the roof is covered in metal.

June 6, 2009

Okay, so this has nothing to do with the lodge.

June 9, 2009

Glass going in the windows.

June 11, 2009

It just gets better and better.

June 18, 2009

Sorry for the delay in posting photos- it's been a zoo around here, as you can well imagine. At least most of the trim is on and painted red!

We received a load of cabinets and insulation, which are waiting to be installed.

Painting the new stove black to match the old one.

June 21, 2009

Installing the basic cabinets in the kitchen. The white stove is there until we can get a hood for the real one.

June 22, 2009

This is our new front deck.

June 22, 2009

And these are the shingles for the gable ends and the house. There are a LOT of shingles there.

June 23, 2009

That's me under the lodge hooking up the waste line for the kitchen sink. The water line will be later this week.

The sink and faucet are roughed-in. I'll put the water lines in before anything gets glued together.

The footings for the new deck are installed. The trim on the gable will have to wait until the deck is finished so we can get a ladder up there safely.

June 24, 2009

Framing for half of the deck. There'll be a lower section off of this one and then steps leading down to the dock. (We also got the water line installed today, but I didn't get a picture.)

June 27, 2009

More decking!

June 30, 2009

I've always thought a dutch door would be neat. Maybe we'll even put pies there to cool!

Tanisha modeling our awesome (mouse-proof!) new pantry.

The deck, nearly complete. All it needs is stain, a railing, and some comfy chairs.

July 14, 2009

The butcherblock island is almost finished! It needs one more shelf and LOTS of sanding...

July 14, 2009

Our new mixer stand is also butcherblock, and we've decided that the rest of the countertops will be the same.

This looks a lot like the last pond-view picture, but now the boardwalk to Togue is complete as well. The steps will go on tomorrow.

July 18, 2009

We have a very pretty countertop! It'll be nice to get it clear-coated.

All I can say is, "It has begun." There's an awful lot of ceiling to be put up in this building!

July 23, 2009

No more water tank for us! This is our new Rinnai tankless heater, which will both save propane and heat the water to 180 degrees F.

The ceiling is coming along nicely. I have to admit, it's actually only about half finished, but it just looks so nice from this angle that I had to put the finished-looking picture up.

I haven't made much mention of the house, whose siding melted off, but we started putting the new cedar shingles up today! It'll look nice when it's done and will match the rest of Camp better.

August 3, 2009

The kitchen ceiling is just about finished. Hopefully the floor will go in next week, and then we just need a little more cabinetry.

August 4, 2009

The shingles on the house are nearly complete. In my humble opinion, they look great.

August 9, 2009

The dining room ceiling is finished and waiting for some trim.

August 18, 2009

The back room ceiling is also finished.

August 23, 2009

Kitchen shelves- very, very handy to have around.

August 25, 2009

The kitchen cupboards with the doors closed.

The kitchen cupboards with one door all the way open and the other halfway open.

August 26, 2009

We got the dishwasher installed today!

August 31, 2009

The wood stove is installed in the dining room, just in time for autumn.

September 5, 2009

Back to the lodge exterior... We installed the planking under the front gable today.

September 7, 2009

Red oak flooring in the dining room. We got about a third of the floor done today, and the rest will be done in the next few days if all goes well.

September 10, 2009

The finished floor in the dining room. Next is the kitchen floor and the stonework for the dining room hearth.

September 18, 2009

The shingles on the house are finished. In the next couple of years, we'll cover the rest of the house as well.

September 23, 2009

The first two rows of shingles on the Lodge.

September 24, 2009

Shingling the lodge. It'll be nice to not look at plywood anymore. (Not that the grid pattern isn't nice, mind you...)

October 2, 2009

More shingles on the lodge. Up in the peak, we're going to have a cedar vent cover.

October 3, 2009

The eave over the front porch is sheathed in, and we have our columns up to support the large overhang on that side.

October 3, 2009

The shingles on the back side of the lodge are complete!

Our cedar vent cover. That'll allow us to access the crawl space above the dining room should the need arise.

October 9, 2009

The uprights in the dining room both help to hold the logs in place and will provide a nice place for the stone wall. I found the picture on the right in Yankee magazine last month- it was about what I had in mind for our wall.

October 10, 2009

We finally have the kitchen floor finished!

2010

I apologize! Although I've been updating our Facebook photo albums, I've been remiss in updating our website to show our lodge progress.

June 6, 2010

Our new dining room furniture.

Our new seating area and hearth. The wall behind the stove is still waiting for stone.

A third view of our new furniture and dining room setup.

June 30, 2010

We've begun shingling in the main gable, and our deck skirting hides the gravel base nicely.

July 1, 2010

The railings have begun!

We kept the railings (mostly) fairly traditional, both for aesthetic and time reasons.

July 2, 2010

The first section of our built-in deck seating. This is the part of the railing that ISN'T fairly traditional.

July 3, 2010

Our pond-side railings and shingling are both nearly complete! One more bench section to go.

July 5, 2010

The railing and skirting on our front porch. Just needs a rocking chair now, and we'll be all set.

July 7, 2010

The final bench section has been installed, making the railings just about finished. We need to wait a month before we can stain them.

Our built-in benches, all done.

July 10, 2010

This isn't the lodge, but I figured I'd show a picture of one of our next projects. This is Galilee, the cabin on the left of the hill, getting pine installed over the rough ceiling boards. It should lighten the cabins up quite a bit.
